Both strip axial tensile and pipe axial tensile tests of fiberglass (FRP, GRP and GRE) pipes are undertaken on the YL25 UTM.
Strip axial tensile test
Strip axial tensile testing is undertaken using wedge grip of the YL25 UTM, and Strip Axial software module. This test measures resistance of a strip of pipe cut along axial direction to axial tensile loads, to simulate pipe resistance to longitudinal tensile loading.
Test conditions and software module allow performing strip axial test in conformance with the following test standards:
- ISO 527
- ISO 8513 Method A
- DIN EN 1393 Method A
- ASTM D 638
From strip axial test the following properties are determined, in accordance with either of the above selected test standard:
- Longitudinal tensile strength, N/mm (lb/in)
- Axial tensile strength, N/mm2 (lb/in2)
- Elongation at break, %
- Elastic modulus (in conjunction with extensometer), N/mm2 (lb/in2)
Pipe axial tensile test
Pipe axial tensile testing is undertaken using special accessory for holding a pipe specimen and Pipe Axial software module. This test measures resistance of pipe to tensile axial loads. It is a more accurate measurement of resistance to axial loads than the strip axial; however for practical reasons of holding pipe specimen, it is generally limited to sizes of 100 to 150 mm (4 – 6 inches).
A proprietary gripping head design developed by YLE eliminates the common pipe slippage problem in pipe axial testing. Test conditions and software module allow performing pipe axial test in conformance with the following test standards:
- ISO 8513 Method B
- DIN EN 1393 Method B
- ASTM D 2105
From pipe axial test the following properties are determined, in accordance with either of the above selected test standard:
- Axial tensile strength, N/mm2 (lb/in2)
- Elongation at break, %
- Elastic modulus (in conjunction with extensometer), N/mm2 (lb/in2)
